A Natural Approach for Crohn’s, Colitis, Irritable Bowel and other Digestive Problems

IBS irritable bowel, and other digestive problems

According to mainstream medicine, the cause of Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel and many other digestive problems are unknown.crohn's, colitis, irritable bowel problems

But maybe the cause and solution to your problem can be found on What You Eat?  And How You Eat?

Let’s start with how you’re eating!  I can’t tell you how many digestive problems are associated with eating on the run, on the go, in a hurry.  This is because when you eat in a hurry – you don’t allow your digestive system to turn-on and produce the necessary digestive juices (enzymes and hydrochloric acid) needed to breakdown your food.

Just because you ate it – doesn’t mean you absorbed it!

When you eat on the go, in a hurry – your parasympathetic system, commonly known as your Resting Digesting system, is literally turned-off.  This is because your sympathetic system, also known as your Fight or Flight mode is over-riding it.  These two systems don’t run or operate at the same time.  When one is on, the other is turned-down.  Think of it like the red-light/green-light intersection.  When you’re running from the proverbial saber tooth tiger and on the go – your body isn’t concerned about digesting a meal or regulating your hormones to have a baby.

What I am trying to say, when you eat packaged, processed, junk food that is made with refined white flour and sugars that are void of enzymes….you have to depend on your digestive system to supply those enzymes.  But if your digestive system is turned-down?  How difficult is it going to be to breakdown and digest that food without those digestive juices?

The same is true if you are eating a protein rich meal – how do you expect to breakdown all that protein without an adequate supply of hydrochloric acid (HCL)?Digestive Enzymes are a natural remedy for digestive problems

The inability of your digestive system to supply your tummy with those important digestive juices – allows a lot of undigested food to flow through your GI tract, rotting and putrefying as it runs through your small and large intestine.  What do you think that is doing to the delicate balance of bacteria in your GI tract?  Can you say bacterial, yeast over-growth?

That undigested food is rotting in your gut and sluffing off all this ‘bad’ bacteria into your small and large intestine.  How much more ‘bad’ bacteria can your GI tract handle?  Now add the fact that you have a history of taking antibiotics, birth control pills and/or steroid hormones…which are known to kill off your intestinal bacteria.  What do you think that is doing to your intestinal environment, and the trillions of bacteria in your GI tract?  Can you see how your digestive problems could have easily come about by simply eating on the go, in a hurry, on the run?

Could it be what you eat!

Now let’s talk about what you eat and what I believe are the most common, offending foods that further irritate your digestive system.  I’m talking about milk-products, such as pasteurized milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, along with wheat (gluten), corn, soy, coffee, MSG and artificial sweeteners.  Now, I’m not saying they are all bad for you, but like the sun, too much sun will irritate and inflame your skin and make you want to avoid it for a while.  Therefore, we may have to do the same thing with our diet.what not to eat

Maybe all that inflammation in your gut has created a sensitivity to certain foods – not an outright allergy.  Think of your GI tract like having a twisted knee – you want to give it a rest, and NOT continue to stress it.  This allows the inflammation in your gut to calm down.  Get those potentially offending foods out of your diet for a couple of weeks to let all the inflammation in your gut calm down.

Think of it this way….every time you eat one of the common food allergens you get a punch in the arm.  If you have coffee, milk, cereal or one of the offending grains for breakfast, you get a punch in the arm.  If for lunch you have a sandwich or pizza, which is probably wheat or corn based….another punch in the arm.  At 2 pm you get your favorite expresso with cream…another punch in the arm….yet for dinner you have a nice piece of chicken, fish or beef with veggies….No Punch in the arm!

Can you see how after a few weeks of poor dietary choices….your arm is going to be hurting from all the punches it took?  that’s kind of what is going on in your tummy.  Therefore, we simply want to go a couple of weeks without inflaming our tummy (getting punched in the arm) so we can better digest and absorb the nutrients in our food, without our tummy always getting knotted-up when we eat.

It was Einstein who said, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again, in hopes for a different result.  So, if your digestive system is all in chaos – you might want to first look at changing your dietary habits and dietary choices before reaching for a medication to deal with whatever digestive imbalance you are dealing with.
